Seller Central question:

Can two different seller accounts use the same “brand name” for a product listing? My friend and I are launching complementary products that will have the same brand name so I want to make sure we will both be able to use the brand name on our individual listings through two separate seller accounts.

Well sure but it poses a bigger risk even if they have the smallest association. They could get away with minor things if they sold all unique items but that gets worse and more serious when they share asins

What matters is that the brand of the products matches the brand on the listing. Since they do (as they are your and your friend’s), there shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Don’t say it won’t be a problem as it very well could. I would ensure that you NEVER bring your laptop to each other’s houses or ever have before in the past thereby linking the two of you together. Or never have sent a package to one another through your buyer side of your accounts. Any link between the two of you could associate you in Amazons eyes and make you ripe for suspension due to collusion. I would be concerned.

What you said will be an issue even if they don’t sell products under the same brand. It is related to Amazon thinking that you have more than one selling account without getting their permission. As for selling products of the same brand, it shouldn’t matter. Anyone not doing private label is selling products of brands that don’t belong to them.
