Each plans come with a 3 day free trial so you can get in and see what it is all about before paying anything.  The plan will automatically roll into your specified monthly subscription so if you are not interested just cancel in the first 3 days and you will not be charged.

Yes, it was initially free to promote the service and get reviewers smile emoticon Now that it is well established, they started monetizing it. It is well worth the little investment from what i have heard.
