Hi, my CPA has just asked me to get a filled in W9 from Amazon.
Who do I contact to get this as I am assuming it is not something done via the usual seller central method.
Last year somebody gave me an email address to contact. But I cant for the life of me find it again
A vendor will give you his taxpayer identification number, address and business name, and will certify he is not subject to backup withholding when he sends you a W-9 form, formally titled “Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification.” The Internal Revenue Service requires that you obtain W-9 forms when you make inventory and service purchases from a vendor to create a paper trail that allows the agency to catch vendors who do not report income and to prevent you from claiming illegitimate vendor expenses.
YOU are CONFUSED.
Simply put, Amazon NEVER provides a W9 to anyone. SO, you will wait forever for that.
You prepare your own W9 for the IRS. Amazon does not request these more than once.
Talk to your Accountant again to make sure you understand what is required. Ask WHY.
More likely, you are going to be waiting on a 1099 that Amazon provides in early February.
