It’s very accurate for what it is actually calculating. If I remember it correctly Junglescout is calculating the sales over the past 30 days and base their numbers on that.

1 If they have actual sales numbers (like the 999 trick) that number is used.

2 If not, they have created an algorithm that estimates how many sales a product has on average based on its BSR in each category. And it’s not a bullshit algorithm like some competitors have. Greg Mercer has actually hired a PHD in maths or something like that to create that “magic formula”.

BUT KEEP IN MIND that their algorithm is measuring the past 30 days. So, if a product has a huge giveaway during that period and temporarily boosts it’s BSR, that may temporarily skew the numbers. And that has nothing to do with Junglescout per se, but it is something to be aware of.

I also recommend using camelcamelcamel.com (free service) to check if any major price changes have occured recently.

I love Junglescout

Another situation where it’s important to be aware of what Junglescout base their numbers on is if you research seasonal products. Because you are often sourcing summer products in the winter and vice versa.

So, if you use Junglescout in july and take a look at snow shovels you will see that they sell almost nothing. And that is correct based on the last 30 days, right.

But if you use camelcamelcamel or google trends, you will see that in january they are selling like crazy… The shovel I show in the picture has a BSR of 4 in the winter and like 40 000 in the summer.

And that is a drawback of Junglescout since we are often sourcing shovels in the summer, for example. But as long as we know how to use it properly and complement it with other products to fill in the blanks, I think it’s awesome.
