For FBM orders, the order goes “pending” when a buyer actually places an order. It stays pending beyond 30 minutes if Amazon cannot validate the buyer’s form of payment. It can last up to 21 days (7 days for Amazon to verify payment, up to 3 times in an order if buyer tries 2 more forms of payment beyond the initial or tries to correct the initial — such as the expiration date).
The system is supposed to put the pending inventory back into active inventory if the order never makes it to “unshipped” (in other words, if it’s cancelled either by the buyer him/herself, or by Amazon if the form of payment is never validated).
