Is there a report I can run that will tell me where my products are being shipped and any demographic information about who is buying them. I am looking for zip codes, not addresses. The purpose of this is to help target advertising for direct sales on our website, not to contact people who have bought on Amazon
Demographic information will require 3rd-party services (or comparable programming skills).
Still, you can get Zip-Code information for each sale from several reports. I think Reports > Fulfillment > Sales > Customer shipment sales may fit your bill with its last column, “Shipment To Postal Code.”
You could go to Reports > Fulfillment > Sales > All orders and one of the last columns is zip code. You could then use census data to create an estimate of demographic information by zip code and see if a notable average emerges but things like race, household income etc are never collected by Amazon during a sale so exact numbers in that regard are unreachable. There are a TON of variables to that method though.
The API can automate the backend by allowing you to write simple applications that will enable you to retrieve the relevant data into tables. You can then use any number of free dbs (mysql) to query the database that you create. So if you wanted to join zip code data with data gleaned from the US Census Bureau, you’d just need to create appropriate entity sets that would allow you to either join or use where statements to provide you the type of report that you’re looking for. mySQL is free and can be run on both Linux and Windows. There may be some differences if you try and use Java or PHP after you compile your code if you use a Mac. The IDEs are different sometimes. I am unaware of a method to simply code PHP and do direct queries to Amazon’s DBs.
