Do we really need a freight forwarding service? Can my China supplier simply ship directly to Amazon if I know 100% the condition and quality of my product?

Another shipping question! Thank you in advance for ANY insight.

My partners and I recently stated FBA with PL. We have two different products on order with two different top notch suppliers. Here are my two main questions:

  1. Do we really need a freight forwarding service? Can my China supplier simply ship directly to Amazon if I know 100% the condition and quality of my product?
  2. If not directly to Amazon – if I put my US address will products arrive to my door or do I have to go to the destination port to pick them up?

Honestly I don’t mind paying a freight forwarding service to help out, but do I really need them considering the notion of shipping directly to Amazon or directly to me (I have a huge warehouse!).

THANK YOU seasoned sellers for any advice. This part of selling on Amazon has been my only stump!

1) Don’t do it. There’s more than just quality. There’s customs, taxes, and other paperwork that I would never leave to my Chinese supplier. Seems like an unnecessary gamble. I have stuff come up all the time with my shipments.

2) Why take the extra step of having the product shipped to your warehouse if you trust the quality so much. Have the freight forwarder ship your product direct to the fulfillment centers and save a ton of money and time. UPS can pick up your pallets and/or cartons right from the freight forwarders warehouse. Print the carton labels in Seller Central and have your freight forwarder put them on the cartons.

It sounds like you still need to do some serious research on shipping. I would advise immersing yourself in every free video and article on the issue you can find. Good luck.

you seem extremely knowledgable on the topic. I would love to ask your opinion on a couple issues I’m struggling with. Would you mind if I reached out to you to ask you about them?

That’s great advice. Thanks a bunch. I do have a freight forwarder available that my friend uses so I will go ahead and use him. Thanks again and yes, I am currently immersing myself in the shipping aspect now – now that my product is almost ready. The only thing that threw me off what that one of my suppliers asked which Amazon warehouse should she ship to. I know for a fact that a competitor uses the same supplier/manufacturer and I was under the impression they ship direct for him, but not 100% sure. Either way since its our first order I’m not taking any chances! Thanks again!

I hope you’re making some changes to the product since you have a competitor or 2 selling the same product from the same manufacturer. Just my 2 cents.

Yes ¬†thank you. What I did was change the body of the product to a different color (this is a unique material item for outdoors/travel). We are also offering accent colors for men, women and neutral. He has only one color with accent color. He does really well just keeping it simple so I’ll be curious to see how our line does
