Hi all, I am in Australia. I have obtained my EIN via phone (a lovely friend has lent me their US address and phoning the IRS is really easy to do yourself - don't pay for it via a third party) and am about to place my 30% deposit with a Chinese supplier.

Hi all, I am in Australia. I have obtained my EIN via phone (a lovely friend has lent me their US address and phoning the IRS is really easy to do yourself – don’t pay for it via a third party) and am about to place my 30% deposit with a Chinese supplier. I have two questions and apologise if I am repeating;
1. Does Amazon sort out the sales tax for you ie making sales to customers in different states of the US – what do I need to do to make sure I have done everything legally?
2. My supplier states by email I am covered by Trade Assurance – is this sufficient or does it need to be included in the Proforma Invoice?
Thanks for the group Anthony, I am getting really useful information from you and group members. Thanks all.
Susan

But get an accountant or tax lawyer to check reality. The tax thing and ‘Nexus’ points are a bit of a hot topic. Taxjar.com can sort it, but the require a fee for each of the 15 states that need this sort of attention (all the states where Amazon has an FBA warehouse minus 3 who don’t have any sales tax -Nevada, Delaware and one other). The downside are the potential tax penalties and actual back tax. We are probably going to use then because we are determined to be in this for the long haul. I understand it’s $30 per state. You don’t have to have it to trade, but it can come back to bite you if you don’t.
