Hi all,

I have been setting up an Amazon business and I’m at the stage of organising products to be shipped to FBA Forward who will deal with my shipping process, talk to my suppliers, prep the packaging for us and then send on to Amazon’s fulfillment center.

Now that everything is arranged with my freight forwarder and their shipping agents have been in contact with my supplier to organised air freight my supplier from China has now asked when I’ll be arranging payment for their products before they can begin to produce.

What is the normal arrangements for this? I’ve heard that we should really only pay 1/3 of the price of the products upfront to suppliers for our insurance. Then the rest as the shipment progresses.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this and how you’ve dealt with this?

Depending on the amount. If it’s low then usually 100%. If it’s more then usually 30/70 or 50/50. I do 50% upfront and 50% on tracking numbers. Obviously this doesn’t really protect you. Ask for photos at every stage, photos of units in the boxes, photos of boxes packed and taped etc. That’s the minimum you should be doing in terms of protection
