I am in the process of ordering my 2nd shipment. Like I said in my previous post, I am based in the UK and have no base in the USA to receive the goods. My first shipment was only 200 units and the shipment was organised (door to door directly to Amazon warehouse by air express – DHL) by my supplier which also included custom clearance and duty charges. It went pretty smoothly.
My 2nd shipment which will be 1000 units (Unit size: 7 inches and unit weight: 100gr), total of 100KG. My question is, should I rely on my supplier again (I have a very good relation with them) for quality control checks and then organising (door to door shipment directly to Amazon warehouse by air express and deal with custom clearance and duty charges) just like they did for my first shipment? Or should I not take the risk, despite the trust that I have in them and use a freight forwarder to check the items one by one for quality control, organise the express shipment by air and deal with custom clearance and duty charges?
I had a tip from someone to send the goods in 2 shipments so in that case mine will be just under $2000 each shipment. so the custom clearance will not be that great an issue. You said it is not that expensive, can you tell me how much normally is the charge for 1000 items, roughly. Secondly I am not sure which exact services a forwarder provides and most importantly what do I need. My supplier will be labeling my items.
I think if the products over £2500 it’s more likely to be checked by customs so yo really need a fright forwarder to handle things on the other side. I’ve heard horror stories about stuff bring held for weeks, virtually impossible to speak to anyone, and when you do, not getting the right info etc. a freight forwarder is not that expensive and saves you a big head ache.
