It’s not that much more expensive to go East Coast as opposed to Long Beach. I bring multiple containers per year into Baltimore, Norfolk, or NY. The big difference ocean freight from West Coast vs. East Coast is TIME. HK to Long Beach can be as short as 15-18 days sailing time, averaging less than 22 days thru customs. To East Coast USA from HK is 29-30 days sailing time; avg 33 days incl customs. It can actually be shorter to come in thru LA, then land-bridge it to your local port. However, more variables means more potential for problems. Plus, West Coast port showdowns near the holidays have become a more common occurrence. With Miami, you’re likely going through the canal, which means a slightly lesser selection of ships to choose from, but your forwarder will deal with that – that’s what you pay them for. We’ve used several over the last decade. Currently with Expeditors and love them. They have a Miami office.
The whole point about FBA is to avoid handling the product. Just send to a service like http://www.zebrapals.com on the west coast who will check, inspect, label (in fact do pretty well anything you want) and then forward to Amazon
