If we see something on Amazon that’s a common name brand… and then find the exact replica on Alibaba (minus the logo)… where we could essentially sell the exact product under our logo… how would we know if we’re crossing the line? I mean, does the name brand company own the rights to the design? Or did the manufacturer design it and the brand pick them up? Any idea how to find out for sure?

If you’re talking about whether there is a patent or not on the product, just google it….type in the product/brand name into google and say something like “squatty potty patent” or “is squatty potty patented”, or “patent number for squatty potty” and you should see something if there is a patent for the most part–as google patents has a good database, or you could look up stuff at the uspto.org site also if you really wanted to dig around. Most things on Amazon are fair game if they are not a major brand name…but even a lot of those are just regular non-patented products with that brand name on it.
