Inventory intermediate to get economical shipment size?

I have not signed up for FBA yet. I have just applied for Seller Central, to sell one book title.

I hear than Amazon order JIT one book at a time, which of course nearly doubles the cost of the book to me to get it to the Amazon warehouse. It costs the same to send 30Kg as to send 2Kg via GLS.
Are there people who will hold a stock of books to economise on shipping costs and ship on to Amazon’s small orders on request?

JIT does not apply to FBA.

Just send whatever qty you want. You have to pay for storage costs, but unless your book is slow selling then it is just best to just send your 30kg at a time.
Don’t know how much you pay to GLS, but amazon have a deal with UPS and you can send 15kg for just over £5 + VAT (I think)

FBA its you determining the quantity you want to stock.
You do not want stock hanging around over a year old, amazon charge a twice yearly big storage fee on items over 12 months old hanging around, in February & August.
Does not affect you if stock is revolving – bunch sold, new bunch comes in and those new items start the clock for them at 0 days while older bunch thats still waiting to sell is on its own clock.
Basically amazon do not want people storing 10,000 copies of Lance Armstrong biography in the amazon warehouses…. awaiting sales. 🙂
