My manufacturer in China is telling me commodity prices are up almost 50%, particularly base paper for display boxes and outer cartons. Anyone else hearing the same?

No – haven’t been told that but its not uncommon for prices to rise at this time of year. Unlimited demand before xmas and then chinese new year mean bumper pay day for Chinese factories

I’ve heard that from my manufacturers as well, don’t know about 50% but they’ve raised prices on me slightly

China’s economy is very bad now. In the span of about a year, the exchange rate alone for the USD to CNY went from 1:6.3 to almost 1:7. An 11% increase in the weakening of the CNY compared to the USD. Consider further the USD weakened a bit over this period also, so the reality is the Chinese economy is down over 15% from last year. With the laws of economy, things will become more expensive for us in China. Most of my products now are about 10%-12.5% more expensive now… and that’s with additional haggling.
