I just placed my first order with a manufacturer this week and have private labeled my product.
I have a question that I’m hoping to get some insight on…I’m considering shipping around 25 units of my product via air express with the rest coming over on boat. The margins on this product don’t really allow for the whole shipment to be sent via air. However, I’m worried that I will sell out of the 25 units during my launch-strategy giveaways before the larger shipment arrives (could take as long as an additional 45 days via my forwarder). Has anyone done this with success? Should I worry about running out of stock and having to start the giveaway launch sequence over again? I know how important it is to keep the momentum going.
There could be an advantage because you can start to build up your listing but you will probably still have to do some sort of relaunch to gain back the original momentum. You might want to wait the 45 days and just build your listing in the back end. There is a lot of work to do, keyword research, learning the ins and outs of PPC, description, building website, creating FB pages, etc.
The only advantage doing this would be to take the pictures, review the quality of the product, give it away to family and friends to have their feedback and to have their idea on how to use the item (to include in the listing).
I think that you should order >at least< 100 units, give away 10-60 for reviews, and sell the 40-90 other waiting for the shipment to come.
If all goes well your product will run out really quickly. I would say as soon as a week. I think it would be OK if you really just want to get the listing out there but be prepared to have two separate launches. One when you get the 25 in and the other when you get the rest of the shipment.
