It is not as simple as “have inventory stored in state- you have nexus”. I paid a tax attorney and cpa and follow their advice. Also my items are only stored in my home state and do not get transferred
Of special note: The Journal of Accountancyadvises that if you have nexus in a state for sales tax, your nexus might not also apply to income tax. Income-tax nexus often requires a more intense level of business dealings in a state.
If you have inventory stored in a state, with only a few exceptions, they DO want you collecting and remitting tax, even if you don’t think you should have to, and even if you don’t want to.
Definitely this is an answer for each seller to investigate, but in general, as a CPA, I can tell you: it really is as simple as that.
